10/20/2015 Update on Fires

Smithville ISD Hidden Pines Fire
Impact on Students and Staff
(October 20, 2015 10:00am) Smithville ISD has had 47 students and eight staff members directly affected by the Hidden Pines fire and are now displaced. Of those 47 displaced students, eleven students have lost their homes. At this time SISD is unaware of any staff members who have had their homes destroyed. Two bus routes have been canceled and re-routed due to the closed area within the Hidden Pines fire area. Alternate bus routes to designated points have been established to pick-up displaced students.
Other SISD staff and students who have been affected are the spouses and children of the local First Responders who have dedicated countless hours fighting the fires. The SISD staff and students have volunteered many hours supporting the fire fighters through packing toiletry bags for First Responders and volunteering at the shelters and feeding facilities. Counseling services are available on each campus for students and staff. Air quality continues to be monitored daily to determine outdoor activities. Transportation and bus routes are assessed each day and adjustments are made and announced via daily press releases in accordance with information received from the Bastrop County Emergency Operations Management communications.
SISD is appreciative of the timely and professional communications of the Bastrop County Emergency Operations Management personnel with Smithville ISD district administration. Smithville ISD continues to be in regular contact with emergency management operations personnel and local officials to monitor and adjust for student and staff safety as well as transportation and daily operations.
Recovery efforts are being coordinated through the Bastrop County Long Term Recovery Team. To volunteer or make a monetary donation for fire victims please visit at www.BCLTRT.org.
Smithville ISD will continue to provide updates as information changes.
