Updated August 27, 2017 (9:05am)

Smithville ISD has cancelled school for Monday, August 28th due to the ongoing torrential rainfall event.

Smithville ISD will continue to monitor this event and keep you informed on a day to day basis.

The regularly scheduled School Board Meeting for Monday, August 28th has been postponed.

Smithville ISD will continue to monitor the progress of Hurricane Harvey throughout the weekend.  Superintendent, Dr. McNulty, has been in contact with city, county and state officials about Harvey’s possible effects on us locally.  The forecast is all over the board from 6 to 25+ inches of rain with the possibility of gale force winds.

Smithville ISD will determine the status of whether the school day on Monday will need to be altered in any way this weekend.  If it is necessary to delay or cancel the start of school on Monday, that notice will be shared at the earliest time possible.  Smithville ISD will notify our faculty, students and parents through campus and department phone trees, Alert Now, Facebook, Twitter, the television stations, and on our SISD Website.

The latest computer models are showing that southeast Bastrop County could receive anywhere from 6 to 25 inches of rain and meteorologists are still not quite sure what direction the storm will take.  Of course,  the force of the winds and the amount of rain we receive in a given period of time will determine how our roads are affected.

Safety of students and staff are our priority.  Please stay safe over the weekend and we will be in touch should any deviation from our normal schedule be needed.  Stay safe.
